The 2018 Turing Award given to 3 AI pioneers

The particularity of the Turing Award is that it is granted in diverse field of computational science. And on this post i will talk about the one granted to the 3 ai pioneers commonly known as the father founders of artificial intelligence.

Geoffrey Hinton, Yann Lecun, Yoshua Bengio

The three men who won developed Deep Learning with conceptual and engineering foundations for AI by using neural networks for computing.

Yann LeCun is a vice president and chief AI scientist at Facebook and a professor at New York University.

Geoffrey Hinton is a vice president and engineering fellow at Google, chief scientific adviser of the Vector Institute and a professor at the University of Toronto.

Yoshua Bengio is a professor at the University of Montreal and the science director of both Mila (Quebec’s AI Institute) and the Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO). Yoshua Bengio and Yann LeCun are also co-directors of CIFAR’s Learning in Machines and Brains program.

Their work over the several years used algorithms to extract insights and patterns in data that recognized languages, objects and led to breakouts in speech recognition, robotics and machine learning of digital images and videos. These deep neural networks became advanced at image recognition.

Neural networks are a means of doing machine learning, in which a computer learns to perform some task by analyzing training examples (in the case of supervised machine learning). Usually, the examples have been hand-labeled in advance. An object recognition system, for instance, might be fed thousands of labeled images of cars, houses, coffee cups, and so on, and it would find visual patterns in the images that consistently correlate with particular labels.

The field of AI has shown great advance nowadays and thanks to the Turing Award, AI researchers are been rewarded for their great work and contribution “of lasting and major technical importance to the computer field”.

Original Source Here Interpretation of dendrogram Each level of dendrogram has a subtle meaning to the relationship between its data members. In a regular relationship chart, one may interpret that at the top lies grandparents or the first generation, the next level corresponds to parents or second generation and the final level belongs to children or third generation. Likewise, in every branching procedure of dendrogram, all the data points having the membership at each level belongs to a certain class. However, to infer this class entity, one has to go through a few individual samples of each level within the formulated cluster and find out what feature is common in the resulting cluster. Also, these inferred classes need not be similar at the sister branches.
